The Importance of the Yangtze River Delta Region

The Yangtze River Delta (“YRD”) region encompasses Shanghai and the provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui: covering around 358,000 square kilometers and generating approximately one quarter of China’s GDP. The cluster of cities in the YRD region offer huge potential to UK companies, particularly in regards to opportunities in the financial services, consumer, engineering consulting, urban planning, and the environmental protection sectors.

长三角包括上海、江苏、浙江和安徽三省一市，面积近36万平方公里，贡献了全国GDP的近四分之一。长三角城市群将建设成面向全球、辐射亚太、引领全国的世界级城市群。长三角一体化发展将为英国企业，特别是金融服务、消费品、工程咨询、城市规划和环境保护等领域的企业带来机遇。

The Upgrading of the Yangtze River Delta Integration Plan

The upgrading of the Yangtze River Delta ("YRD") Integration Initiative to a national strategy was announced by President XI in November 2018 at the first China International Import Expo. In December 2019, The YRD Integration Development Plan was released by the central government. The plan detailed development goals set to be achieved by 2025 and offered an insight into how the YRD will develop by 2035.

习近平主席在2018年第一届进博会上宣布提升长三角一体化战略为国家战略。2019年12月，国家出台了《长江三角洲区域一体化发展规划纲要》，标志着长三角一体化发展进入了新的阶段。

What progress has been made since the announcement of the policy framework? And how can UK companies benefit from the initiative?

To help companies better understand the priorities of the YRD integration policy and the opportunities, CBBC will run this webinar briefing and invite officials from Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce and Shanghai Reform and Development Committee to interpret the policies. Weir Group which UK has successfully invested in the YRD region will showcase how it has turned the opportunity into successful business.

Tom Simpson is the Managing Director, China Operations & China Chief Representative at the China Britain-Business Council overseeing our thirteen offices in China based out of Beijing.

Tom has been at the China-Britain Business Council ("CBBC") since joining in 2013 as Guangzhou Chief Representative, Assistant Director for South China. In 2015, he moved to our Beijing office to take on the role of Director, Creative Industries & Sports, before being promoted to Senior Director, Service Delivery (China), in early 2018 in a role managing all eight of CBBC’s sector teams and a team of 25 in five locations across China.

Tom has previously served as the Chongqing General Manager for the British Chamber of Commerce Southwest China from 2010 to 2011, and General Manager of the British Chamber of Commerce Guangdong from 2011 to 2013 where he was based in Guangzhou.

Tom is originally from Edinburgh and attended Leeds University where he studied Chinese.

赵汤先生现任英中贸易协会中国区总裁兼中国首席代表，常驻北京办事处并负责监管协会在中国的13个办事处。

2013年，赵汤先生加入英中贸易协会("CBBC")，并担任广州办事处的首席代表及华南区副总监。2015年，他调任至英中贸易协会北京办事处担任创意产业与体育行业总监一职，并于2018年初晋升为中国区服务提供高级总监，负责管理CBBC在中国五个地区由25人组成的八大行业团队。

此前，赵汤先生曾于2010年至2011年担任中国西南英国商会重庆总经理。2011年至2013年在广州担任广东英国商会总经理。

赵汤先生来自英国爱丁堡，曾在利兹大学学习中文。

Mr YANG is Vice Chairman of Shanghai Municipal of Commerce. His remit includes foreign affairs, foreign Investment promotion, foreign investment administration, Invest Shanghai and CIIE planning.

Mr YANG started his career in July 1995. He has held various positions with the majority of them being in Zhabei District of Shanghai.   

杨朝先生现任上海市商务委员会党组成员、副主任。负责商务外事、外国投资管理、外商投资促进、台港澳商务、组织筹办中国（上海）国际技术进出口交易会等工作。分管外事处、外国投资管理处、外商投资促进处（台港澳商务处）、市外国投资促进中心（市对外投资促进中心）、市国际技术进出口促进中心。此前，杨先生曾在上海市普陀区多个部门任职。

Dr LU Jian Zhong is currently President of Weir Group (China). Prior to this role, Dr Lu was the Global Partner of Brunswick Group, Acting President of BHP Billiton (China), and Executive Vice President of Singapore RGE Group (China).

As one of the pioneers in the field of CSR and Sustainability, he has rich, systematic and forward-looking theoretical system and practical experience in this field. Dr LU actively advocates the idea of sustainability, has led many CSR managers, philanthropists and initiatives to innovate, and has made outstanding contributions to the promotion of public welfare and CSR development. Dr LU is the founder of CSR Thought Lab, a Board member of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Deputy Director-General of China Corporate Social Responsibility Think Tank, Expert of the Think Tank of China Federation of Industry & Economy, Expert of the Southern Weekly CSR Research Center, Member of the Shenzhen Manufacturing Strategy Advisory Board; former Co-chair of American Chamber (Shanghai) BCSR Committee, and Guest Professor at Nankai University.
